Our Mission The Franciscan Community Center exists to serve the people of Manhattan’s Upper West Side as an instrument of God’s peace. In the spirit of St. Francis, we reach out to all, in particular the poor, the alienated, and immigrant populations. We develop, manage and support educational, recreational, and social programs that create positive change in the lives of those we serve. |

FCC History & Background In July, 1990, the Franciscan Friars of Holy Name Province assumed responsibility of Holy Name of Jesus Parish on 96th Street & Amsterdam Avenue. The opportunity to engage in urban ministry in New York City was the driving force behind the Franciscans’ move to Manhattan’s Upper West Side. The Franciscan Community Center, located on 97th Street between Amsterdam Avenue & Broadway, was established in 1991. The center was officially incorporated as a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation in 1997. All are welcome to participate in and benefit from the center’s programs and services. |
