Health & Wellness

 

These services were developed in response to the critical shortage of affordable healthcare for our local population.  Through the collaboration of the community center and health professionals, the Franciscan Community Center sponsors a number of health seminars throughout the year. These seminars consist of: professionally administered testing/screening (i.e. Blood Pressure, Cholesterol, Glucose, etc.); educational lectures/workshops on various health topics; and referrals to other appropriate social services.  Once each year a Blood Drive is held in partnership with the New York Blood Center.

Art and Painting Program

Reaching For The Stars, our art and painting program runs from September through June and is open to adults and children.  The classes meet every Wednesday evening from 6pm-8pm.  Students experiment with various painting techniques using water colors and acrylics, and study art appreciation.  The course culminates with an exhibit of student work.  Classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm-8:00pm.  Yearly Fee: Adults-$30.00, Childrren-$15.00.  Call 212-932-8040 ext. 39 for more information.

Legal Counseling Services

 

The FCC sponsors free services twice a month for individuals who seek advice in family, criminal, landlord-tenant, real estate, employment, bankruptcy, debt related matters, health care proxies and powers of attorney.  Please call (212) 932-8040, ext. 39 for an appointment.  Translation services will be provided or you may bring your own.  Please Note:  The attorneys do not take on representation, but advise and refer individuals to agencies or attorneys to assist and represent them.

Zumba Fitness

ZUMBA is a fusion of Latin and International music - dance themes creating a fun workout. The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. Zumba utilizes the principals of fitness interval training and resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning and total body toning. It is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps.  Classes are held on Monday evenings from 6:30pm-7:30pm on the 3rd Floor Gymnasium.  Single Class-$15.00, 10 Class Card-$100.00 (save $50.00!)
